Film School in a Box represents the hard work, blood, sweat and tears from many people over many years. And like all great things do, it all started out with an idea.
As filmmakers, we grew up at a time when non-linear digital editing was just emerging. Renting an AVID system to cut a short film or music video cost thousands of dollars a week. Now, for the same price, you can buy an entire home system with software that’s more powerful and efficient than anything they had back then. The future has arrived-- the democratization of film is real.
But the truth is, it doesn’t matter if you own the most powerful system in the world, without technical knowledge and solid storytelling skills, it’s still just a box. And yet, how do you learn without having a film to cut? That was the Catch-22.
Until now…
We created Film School in a Box in order to provide filmmakers with a means to sharpen their story-telling skills by empowering them to make all the creative decisions in cutting a feature film. Anyone who’s ever made a movie knows that movies are made in the editing room. How you build tension, create your mood, build and shape characters, make jokes that work, how you create and tell your story – all in the edit. And after all, the only way to really understand the art of storytelling is to actually do it.
Are you ready to embark on an incredible journey? It can be as involved and as deep an experience as you choose to make it. And at the end, the movie you will have created will be yours. A film you can show your friends and say with authority, “Here’s a film I just cut. Check it out.”
Then, kick back, relax, and watch as you blow their minds.
It’s your journey… So what are you going to do?
